Kinoforum Labs - From Short to Feature Film

ACTIVITY FOR PRE-REGISTERED PARTICIPANTS

Kinoforum Labs – From Short to Feature is a development lab for the first feature-length audiovisual project, in partnership with Projeto Paradiso, aimed at Brazilian short film filmmakers selected for the 36th Kinoforum - São Paulo International Short Film Festival.


The workshop aims to assist in the transition from short to feature film, targeting filmmakers, screenwriters, directors, and producers, guiding project development through collaborative meetings with professionals in directing, production, and distribution. At the workshop's conclusion, participants will present their projects in a pitching session open to the public and audiovisual industry experts with potential interest in the project.

Screenplay and Direction/Transition:

  • Caru Alves de Souza

    Caru Alves de Souza is a director, screenwriter, and producer from São Paulo. Her feature film "Meu Nome é Bagdá" won the award for best film at Generation 14 in Berlin. She has also directed short films, medium-length films, and series, both documentaries and fiction. Her most recent work, "De Menor - A Série," premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, inspired by her film of the same name, which won an award at the Rio Film Festival and was screened in San Sebastian.

Production:

  • Julia Alves

    An independent film production company focused on radical narratives and international collaborations. It has produced films such as “Os Delinquentes” by Argentinian director Rodrigo Moreno; “A Flor do Buriti” by Renée Nader Messora and João Salaviza (Ensemble Prize – Cannes 2023); and “Caiam as Rosas Brancas!” by Albertina Carri. It founded QUARTA-FEIRA FILMES to reinvent production methods and foster works that embrace risk, diversity, and creative radicalism. It has participated in Berlinale Talents (2019 and 2025), EAVE Producers Workshop 2023, Creative Producer Indaba 2024/2025, and is a member of the Paradiso Talent Network.

  • Bernardo Lessa

    Bernardo Lessa is a business development specialist with nearly 10 years of experience in project management, fundraising, marketing, and market analysis. He holds a degree in Cinema and Audiovisual (UFPE) and a postgraduate degree in Audiovisual Business Management (FAAP). He worked at Vitrine Filmes and Conspiração Filmes, participating in the financing and launch of over 70 titles, including "Bacurau" and "O Auto da Compadecida 2". He is the executive director of TANTO and the Launch Manager of the Vitrine Petrobras Session.
